SAFETY STRIPS

Slippery and dangerous wooden steps, slippery stairs and slippery platforms and landings can be transformed when choosing the correct Merlin product. In days gone by chicken wire was predominantly used to get around the issues of underfoot safety on slippery wooden substrates however in most cases the cure was worse that the disease as the chicken wire over a short period of time became a slip hazard in itself.

Today nonslip strips and plates can transform any slippery wooden walking or working area and once secured in place will give years of reliable performance and reliability. Little or no maintenance is required apart fron the occasional wash down with a mild chemical and a stiff broom to help keep the product looking its best.

The strips and plates are made from galvanised steel or stainless steel, depending on the environment that they are going into. The steel is prepared and epoxy infused with carborundum is bonded together onto the steel to form a long lasting, reliable and problem solving solution in the prevention of slippery wooden bridge decks, wooden steps and stairs as well as everyday wooden decks.

These strips and plates are easily installed, they are either glued down or screwed to the substrate.

PHOTO-LUMINOUS GLOW-IN-DARK NOSINGS

This product is a retro fit solution to stair nosing’s that are already installed. The photoluminescence (PL) strip is mounted on an aluminium substrate and comes at the length and width that is suitable for your application.

To get the correct fitting simply measure the width and length of the nosing that it is going under and relay these dimensions when an order is being placed.

To fit the photoluminescent plate under your existing nosing, firstly remove the nosing, mark and drill the holes in the plate that align with the fixing holes in the nosing and reattach the nosing back down using the same fixing points.

The PL strip is positioned at the rear of the nosing which easily identifies every step. This visual display indicates where further steps are thus lighting the way out of a area should an emergency situation arise.

TRACTION MATTING

This product has a vinyl backing and through a chemical process the aggregate is then fused to the mat by altering the plasticizers in the vinyl. This then gives the Traction Mat a very long-life span and its lightweight construction makes it ideal for many and varied applications.

The Mat can be manufactured to a wide variety of sizes and configurations and usually it can be coloured to your specific requirements.

A recent example of the effectiveness of this product was, the management of a major city mall had a slipping issue at the entrance to the mall which was made more dangerous when it rained or when the entrance became damp. The management was at a loss as to how to alleviate this issue as there had been numerous complaints regarding people falling and slipping over once on these tiles.

The tiles had been treated previously with a etching fluid however the results still were not satisfactory. The only option open to them was to remove the offending tiles and replace them.

This of course meant the closure of the main entrance to the mall for several days while workers uplifted the tiles and replaced them. The closure of this entrance would have been very disruptive to the malls customers so Merlin Anti Slip was then contacted to offer their expertise and to see if there was an alternative.

Kevin from Merlin evaluated the entrance, his suggestion was to leave the tiles as they were and to afix Traction Matting in 300 x 300 pads to the offending tiles. The tiles were prepared to ensure maximum adhesion for the pads to the tiles. This completely solved the problem of slippage in the area. To date vast numbers of people have travelled over the pads with shopping trollies full of products and many thousands of people have walked over the pads without one report of an underfoot accident.

You can imagine how elated the Mall Managers were to have their problem solved. The Traction Mat fulfilled their requirements perfectly. What was a becoming a very costly issue to solve was quickly turned around by having Kevin view the issue and come up with the correct solution.

The Traction Mat is a thin quality long lasting product most suitable to flat areas that have been identified as problem areas.

SAFETY ACCESS ROUTES

Line/lane marking.

With an escape system it is determined that the area designated and documented for this escape system will stipulate that this area must be always kept clutter free.

These escape routes, need to be maintained as escape routes to be functional. That requires the route that has been identified would have solarises down each side of the lane mark area. Inside the Solaris there would be cross hatch lane marking which will identify the area that must be kept clutter free and the solarises will identify the egress route in darkness. This then identifies a safe escape route, and it maintains a house keeping environment whereby it is clutter free and provides egress should an emergency situation arise.

When Merlin identifies, supplies, and installs a lane marking escape system/route the egress route is marked with yellow hatched pathway markers and solarises. These Solaris (photoluminescence) pads are placed at 700mm intervals on the sides of these hatched lane markings. This escape/egress route can now be identified, should the building be plunged into darkness, as a safe clutter free egress route providing a safe escape route from the building.

The very way that the Lane marking, and the photoluminescence work together will give the appearance of a safe exit way as photoluminescence lighting at 700mm intervals will provide visibility by a big glowing disc. This disc is a bright glowing photoluminescent pad which is positioned down each side of the marked lanes and identifies the clear escape route.
